Deep Brain Stimulation

Deep Brain Stimulation is a surgical treatment for people who suffer from essential tremor and the disabling tremors associated with Parkinson's Disease. Deep brain stimulation uses electrical impulses to stimulate a target area in the brain and block brain signals that cause the uncontrollable shaking. The procedure does not destroy any brain tissue, and stimulation can be stopped at any time by turning off the device that supplies the electrical impulses. The treatment produces dramatic results and has been done by local physicians at Penrose Hospital since the fall of 2004.
